Cultural and Traditional Significance The May full moon is traditionally known as the Flower Moon, named for the abundant blooming of flowers in the Northern Hemisphere during this month. Native American tribes referred to it as the Budding Moon, Planting Moon, or Egg Laying Moon, reflecting agricultural cycles and seasonal changes. In European traditions, it has also been called the Milk Moon, Mothers’ Moon, and Hare Moon, highlighting its connection to fertility, nurturing, and nature’s abundance.  In Chinese culture, the May full moon is associated with family reunions during festivals like the Dragon Boat Festival, emphasizing unity and harmony. In Hindu traditions, it coincides with Vesak, celebrating Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death. Ancient Egyptians honored Thoth, the god of wisdom, while Greek mythology links the moon to Artemis, goddess of hunting and wilderness. Celtic traditions revered Cerridwen, symbolizing transformation and rebirth.  Spiritual and Astrological Meaning Spiritually, the May full moon represents growth, abundance, and transformation, encouraging individuals to release what no longer serves them and embrace personal truths. It is a time to reflect on intentions set earlier in the year and to cultivate emotional and spiritual rebirth. Astrologically, the moon’s influence varies by zodiac sign, offering insights into personal growth areas, challenges, and opportunities for manifestation.  The May full moon is also a micro full moon, a period of heightened illumination in the lunar cycle, symbolizing clarity, culmination, and the revelation of hidden aspects of life. Its energy encourages introspection, emotional release, and the blossoming of one’s potential, much like flowers reaching full bloom in spring.
